All guides

The most common question in this category, and the one that causes the most wasted money. Pods are rarely interchangeable between brands, and often not between generations of the same brand.

The short answer

Buy the pod named for your exact device. “Fits most kits” is not a thing. A pod that physically pushes into the wrong device will usually leak, and can flood the airway.

How to identify what you need

  1. Read the device. The model is normally printed on the body or the base.
  2. Check the generation. Xros, Xros 3, Xros 3 Mini and Xros 4 are different devices. Some share pods, some do not.
  3. Check the old pod. Resistance in ohms is usually printed on the side, along with the model.
  4. Match the resistance. A 0.6 ohm and a 1.2 ohm pod may both fit and behave completely differently.

Resistance, and why it matters

0.2 to 0.4 ohm More vapour and warmth. Suits lower nicotine strengths.
0.6 to 0.8 ohm The middle ground and the most common.
1.0 to 1.2 ohm Tight mouth-to-lung draw. Best with 20mg nic salt. Liquid lasts longest.

Lower resistance draws more power and uses more liquid. If a pod tastes harsh with 20mg salt, the resistance is probably too low for that strength.

Prefilled versus refillable

A prefilled pod arrives sealed with liquid in it. A refillable pod is empty and you fill it from a bottle. They are not interchangeable even where they physically fit, because the fill port differs.

Making pods last

Prime a new pod by letting it stand full for five minutes before the first draw. Firing a dry wick burns it immediately and produces a taste you will not forget. Beyond that, keep it topped up, and expect one to two weeks from a coil in normal use.
